My name is Camila Magalhaes Lima Mutzenbecher, I am 21 years old and I live in Vila Isabel, north part of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Untill 9 years ago I had a normal life as any middle class teenager. Happy, playfull and smilling, a great fan of Spice Girls, I used to ride a bike and skate.I had olimpic gym and swiming classes. I had as my greatest dream to follow a model´s carreer.

This dream was interrupted on september 03 of 1998, when I was hit accidentaly by a straight bullet that became stuck on my cervical spine. In consequence of that, I became tethraplegic. This accident on that time, was one of the main news on the press in general:newspapers and television news broadcasted it all over the country.

News from Portugal

The implant I did of stem cells surgery from the smell cells (pioneer world technique) in September 30, 2006, at Egas de Moniz Hospital, with MD Carlos Lima was great and everything went as expected. The hospital charges, for foreigners, the amount of E 35,000. My parents undertook the debt (they made a loan) so I wouldn´t miss the oportunity.

The results take about one ou two years. To a better recovery of my motor activity, sensitive and autonomous functions, I need an intensive care focused in march training besides other exercises in an experienced center where other patients were successful, such as the Giusti Center, in Florence, Italy (www.centrogiusti.it).

Thanks to all that has been helping me with donations, good vibrations and positive thinking. Any help is welcome for my recovery.

New from the Giusti center

Was very fulfilling the physiotherapy R.I.C. (reabilitation intensive and continue) at the Giusti Center. I could accomplish 20 sections last june and I felt much better physically and emotionally. I gained strength and muscle in my body and also a light movement in my legs. The machines are very functional and the methodology is very different than ours here in Brazil. They work the whole body and put the patient in a stand up position, independent of the level of the lesion. With a special walker I could walk without the tutor. This is the big difference - to make my legs work with a free knees.

Adriana and Grace, they are  physical therapists and they came with me to Italy, they were amazed by the advanced technology used. The  time was really short, but enough to increase my hope of one day to walk again.

Good Health and Peace for all!
